Field Annotation

गर्भ — Garbha

The central containment chamber. Geometry inferred from resonance mapping and structural analysis — no direct survey access has been achieved. Estimated dimensions: 8–11 metres diameter, depth below foundation level uncertain. The chamber predates the temple above it — geological analysis of the ring structure places the original engineering work at a minimum of nine centuries before the current temple construction, and possibly significantly earlier. The chamber was not built as part of the temple. The temple was built above the chamber. Cross-reference note: Colonial-era Religious Endowments Act archive transfer, 1857. Deputy Collector T. Hewitt: 'Sub-foundation chamber of unknown origin. No structural risk. No further investigation recommended.' The Unit notes that the chamber has been known, in various degrees, for at least 170 years. It has not been understood in that time.
