The Two Chambers

Below the western foundation precinct lies the inscription chamber. Every surface has been cut with intent. Lines that do not end. Geometry that does not resolve within the chamber itself. Deputy Collector Thomas Hewitt entered it in 1857 and recorded it as a structural anomaly of no consequence. In a private journal never published, he wrote: it knew I was there. Krishnamurthy found it again in 1950 and came back up walking fast, not running, in the careful way of a man determined not to alarm anyone. The chamber was re-sealed. It has not been entered since. Below the southern foundation precinct, deeper and narrower, is the second chamber. Not the inscription chamber, which documents the system. This one is the system's purpose.
